IELTS Practice Speaking Test Answers, Part 1, Sample Answer 1.

The recording below is an actual answer by a candidate taking one of my live practice speaking tests:

This was the question in in the Frame 1 question of part 1 of the live practice IELTS speaking tests:

Examiner: "Let's go onto talk about newspapers now. How often do you read a newspaper?"

 

 

 

 

 

So let's take a closer look at this candidate's IELTS speaking test answer:

Good Points

• She spoke reasonably confidently and for at least 15 seconds.

Errors

• The answer was not well thought out. This quite a common question format, so it preparing an answer format in advance is very important. Other variations are "how often do you watch television?' or "How often do you go shopping."..etc.It should therefore be easy to score high marks answering these kinds of questions. • Never answer a question with. "Not really." It sounds like you do not know how to properly construct a grammatically corrent answer. It is much better to say.."To tell the truth" or "Actually..."
• It is also important to memorise key bridging phrases accurately. These can be used effectively, whilst thinking of how to answer the question. The mistake made in this answer, was "When I have a time." It should be "When I have the time."
